Orkut History:
Orkut is one of the popular social networking sites that is owned by Google. orkut was designed to meet new friends and maintain relationships. Orkut was named Orkut because it was created by Orkut Büyükkökten. Orkut is very much popular in India and Brazil. In United States and other countries people prefer facebook, myspace and other social networking sites. Orkut is one of the most visited sites In India and Brazil. As of April 2010, Orkut has 48% users in Brazil and 39.2% in India. In United states Orkut only has 2.2% users.
In august 2008 Google announced that orkut would be fully managed and operated in Brazil, by Google Brazil. The decision was taken on the basis of large amount of Brazilian users.
As if of June, 2011 Alex traffic ranked orkut was ranked at 96th place in the world. The Website currently had over 100 million users accross the globe.
HIstory Of Orkut:
In 2003, Google offered to purchase friendster.com but it was declined. As a result google commisioned Orkut Büyükkökten to work on a competing project. That was why Orkut came into existence

In the first year united states have the largest user base. But soon Brazil surpassed the number of users. Orkut has its mobile version also which is m.orkut.com and many people use it.
Orkut has also found popularity in Estoria as witnessed by a servey.
